For the past fourteen years, Mapleton School has been very fortunate to offer the Roots of Empathy program. Now in it's 15th year, we are again pleased to provide this enriching experience. For the current 2016/17 school year, Mrs. Bender's Grade 2 class will be participating in the program, with the help of our Roots of Empathy instructor, Mrs. Bekkering.
The heart of the program revolves around a parent and child from the community who come to the school in the form of a family visit. During this visit, the children are able to experience and observe human development, which in turn nutures the growth of empathy. We are very thankful for our family who has committed their time and interest to this! In addition to this very special visit, Mrs. Bekkering will visit the class prior to and after the family visit. It is at this time that new themes are introduced as well as reflecting on what we've learned.
